Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. At the age of five the carnival barker father passed away, leaving Ruth's mother with no choice but to become a cleaner lady and waitress in order to feed the family. Ruth went to school and grew up in poverty within Boston Massachusetts the tenement districts. Following only two school years the young woman left to pursue the acting career. Her path to success turned out be filled with challenges and In New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a crime magazine, but theatrical work eluded her. While in New York, she worked at a bar, as the check-in lady before resigning and moving back to Boston. In Boston, she earned a living working as an usherette during the during the day and then at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first acting job. Also, she studied drama. She eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
